Author Spotlight: Pandora Pine

Welcome

Pandora Pine

For my latest Author Spotlight I’m joined by the amazing Pandora Pine. We talked about her latest release, doing this for her younger self, no two days being the same, and being a bird nerd!

Over to you Pandora…

First things first, please introduce yourself!
Hi Everyone! I’m Pandora! For those of you who don’t know me, I write paranormal romance with an emphasis on found family and a happily ever after is always guaranteed.

Tell us a little bit about your writing style.
I’m a bit of a plantser. LOL. Some books are perfectly plotted out, while others chart their own course. Honestly, those are the most fun because I have no idea what’s going to happen next.

Describe your books in only three words.
Funny. Sweet. Thoughtful.

Can you tell us a little bit about your latest release?
My latest release is called Ghost Shift. An angel of death killer is loose in Salem Mercy Hospital and Jude and Cope have to stop him before he can kill again.

Out of all your books, which one are you most proud of?
Wow! That’s a hard question. I’m proud of all of them. Not a lot of people can do what we do as writers. I still can’t believe I’ve actually done this thing. If I had to pick one or be mercilessly tickled, I would say Ghost Ship. Cope and Jude were trying to reunite lovers separated the night the Titanic sank. I’d always wanted to write a book about the sinking and it was incredible to actually get to do it.

What or who (or both) has influenced you most as a writer?
To be honest, it’s my younger self. I had a bit of an unhappy childhood. I never thought I’d get to live my dreams. When I sit at my desk and write these books, I do it for that little girl who no one stood up for, who people bullied. I do it to make her proud. To be able to say we did it!

What inspired you to start writing?
I was sick and tired of hating my day job. I wanted to be happy and travel. I started writing as a hobby and then took a chance on self publishing. I’ve never regretted taking that chance.

What’s your writing process like? Do you have a typical “writing day”?
What I wish I’d known sooner is that no two days are the same. This is not like working in an office where every day is a carbon copy of the one before. I set goals for myself. Some days I hit them, some I don’t, sometimes I exceed them. I try not to be too hard on myself because tomorrow is another day. Where have I heard that before??

What comes first for you – the plot or the characters?
For me, it’s always the plot. I like to stay away from the characters until it’s time to write, otherwise they’ll start talking to me and I’ll have to ignore them and tell them to wait their turn, which can be excruciating!

What’s a book that you wish you’d written?
So far, I don’t have one. I keep a file of “dead” ideas and every now and then one of them gets CPR and comes back to life. My Protect and Serve series is an example of that. I was going to write it in 2017 and the idea for Cold Case Psychic bit harder and really launched my career.

If you could only write one trope for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Found Family for sure! I love the idea of lost souls finding their people.

What would be your three desert island books?
Hmmmm… It by Stephen King. Moby Dick, by Herman Melville and How to survive on a desert island, by someone smarter than me!

If one of your books could be made into a movie/TV series, which would you choose and who would you cast?
I would LOVE if the Cold Case Psychic series came to Netflix! I’ve always seen Ronan as Scott Eastwood and Tennyson as Kit Harington, Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. How much fun would that be? Each book would be a season of the show, just like Bridgerton!

What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Do you have a secret passion or hobby that we don’t know about?
I’m a bird nerd. Always have been. I love getting out with my camera and finding cool birds to photograph. Lately I’ve been getting my brick on and have been building Lego, which I absolutely love!

Finally, what’s your favourite dinosaur?
T-Rex! No Question! He’s so big and cool with all those teeth and his tiny arms!
